The national digital identity program has entered a limited trial across six provinces, according to a statement from the relevant ministry this week. Residents in pilot areas can access basic civil services through a single application.
In the initial phase, available services include residency certificates, primary health facility referrals, and simplified personal tax filing. Additional services will be added in stages following evaluation.
Ministry officials said the system was designed with separated databases across agencies, so that no single institution gains full access to a resident's complete record. An independent security audit is scheduled before the national rollout.
Several civil society organizations have asked for written guarantees on data retention periods and correction mechanisms in cases of recording errors. The ministry said implementing regulations on those points are being drafted.
