The Smart #2 electric vehicle has obtained certification from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology ahead of its scheduled launch at the Paris Motor Show in October 2026. The certification also revealed images and specifications of the production version of the vehicle.

According to Arena EV's report, the Smart #2 previously underwent performance and safety testing before mass production. After receiving approval from China's regulator, the vehicle has been granted permission to be marketed in the country.

The Smart #2's design is inspired by the earlier-generation Smart ForTwo city car. The vehicle retains the compact shape and distinctive ForTwo character, but uses an electric powertrain. Based on MIIT certification data, the Smart #2 has a length of 2,764 mm, width of 1,669 mm, height of 1,555 mm, and wheelbase of 1,875 mm.

The Smart #2 production version retains the design introduced through its concept car in April, with a front grille available as an optional feature. Smart previously stated that the Smart #2 has a range of nearly 249 miles or approximately 400 kilometres based on China's Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) standard, although this standard is known to produce higher range figures compared with other testing methods.

The Smart #2 is expected to be produced in China and begin marketing in early 2027.
