Jamaican striker Khadija Shaw scored twice as Manchester City opened the Women's Super League season with a victory over Birmingham. Shaw, last season's Golden Boot winner, began the campaign where she left off with two goals in the match.
Shaw could have added more goals in the first half had it not been for a strong debut from Birmingham's new goalkeeper Sophie Baggaley, who was promoted to the top tier with her team.
Manchester City had recently secured Shaw to a new contract over the summer, emphasizing the importance they placed on retaining the striker.
