Cristiano Ronaldo posted a condolence message to Lionel Messi in an Instagram comment. The message came after Messi lost his father, Jorge Messi, who died on Saturday (8/8) in Rosario, Argentina.
Ronaldo wrote, "Warm hugs to you and your family during these difficult times, Leo. May you be given strength." Ronaldo's comment received more than one million likes and tens of thousands of replies.
Messi posted a lengthy message on Instagram on Wednesday (12/8) evening Indonesia time, expressing his emotional feelings over the loss of his father. Hundreds of thousands of comments responded to Messi's tribute, including from other athletes such as Luka Modric, Neymar, David Beckham, and Patrick Kluivert, as well as clubs and sports media.
In his post, Messi acknowledged how deeply painful it was to lose his father, who had always made sacrifices and stood by him. Messi also touched on Jorge's significant role in key moments of his football career, including at the World Cup, and apologised for failing to retain the title.
