Real Madrid's unbeaten start to the La Liga season ended Friday when Real Betis defeated them 1-0. Substitute Troy Parrott scored nine minutes from the end to break the deadlock in Seville.
Parrott, introduced in the 68th minute, reacted quickly in the 81st minute after goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois parried a header into his path. The Republic of Ireland international sealed the victory as the match moved into the closing stages.
The clash began at a high tempo but the pace dropped after the interval in the heat. Goalkeeper Álvaro Valles saved a stoppage-time penalty from Real Madrid to preserve the result.
