Paris Saint-Germain will meet Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup at Red Bull Arena in Salzburg, Austria. The match will be broadcast live on Vidio channel on Thursday (13/8) at 02.00 WIB.
PSG and Aston Villa are respectively the Champions League and Europa League champions, the two highest competitions in Europe. The two clubs will meet in the Super Cup tradition that has been held since 1972.
This is PSG's third appearance at the Super Cup. Previously, the Paris club competed in 1996 and last year. In 1996, PSG as the UEFA Cup winners lost to Juventus 2-9 in a two-legged tie. For Aston Villa, this is their second appearance in the competition, having previously competed in 1982 with Champions League champions status.
PSG became Champions League champions last season after defeating Arsenal on penalties under the guidance of Luis Enrique. Meanwhile, Aston Villa won the Europa League last season by defeating Freiburg 3-0. Both clubs are competing with enthusiasm in this pre-season match.
"I think there is no other club in Europe that has high motivation apart from us," said Luis Enrique according to UEFA's official website. Aston Villa manager Unai Emery added, "I think this club is in a new era, with the possibility of winning a trophy."
