Former Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is competing to buy NBA Europe's London-based team, pitted against a consortium that includes the Lewis family, current owners of Spurs.
A consortium led by the Checketts family, which includes the Lewises, has submitted an offer in the ongoing auction for the franchise. The Checketts have owned or invested in Major League Soccer's Real Salt Lake and the National Hockey League's St Louis Blues. The Eccles family, who hold shares in Burnley FC and Spanish club Espanyol alongside the Checketts, form the third member of that consortium.
Levy's group includes Liberty Global and MSP Sports Capital, a former backer of McLaren Racing. The NBA is seeking to generate billions of dollars by selling rights to 12 new European franchises based in cities including Berlin, Manchester, Milan, Munich, Paris and Rome. London has emerged as the most sought-after of the teams, with the first transactions expected in the coming weeks.
Levy departed his role as Spurs executive chairman in September 2025 after nearly 25 years in the position. While Spurs and Levy officially characterized his departure as a "step down," it was widely understood the decision was made without his consent.
