The Indonesian national team is turning its attention to the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup after experiencing disappointment in the 2026 AFF Cup. The tournament, designed by FIFA in collaboration with ASEAN leaders, will take place during FIFA's international match calendar for the September-October period.

A member of PSSI's Executive Committee, Achmad Riyadh, confirmed that Indonesia will host the Premier Division of the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup. "The letter from FIFA is already here and it is consistent," Riyadh told CNN Indonesia regarding the group division and host status.

The host and group division issue emerged after FIFA's Congress on 30 April in Vancouver, Canada. Singapore's Strait Times media first published information about the group division based on anonymous reliable sources, while the Vietnam Football Federation eventually disclosed the details at the end of July.

According to Vietnam's publication, the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup is divided into two divisions based on FIFA rankings. Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, and Pakistan compete in the Premier Division, which is held in Indonesia, while Hong Kong, Myanmar, Cambodia, Brunei, Laos, and Timor-Leste are in the Challenge Division, which is held in Hong Kong. Pakistan and Hong Kong are invitees as non-ASEAN nations.

The tournament offers a prize of US$1 million, or Rp17.8 billion, for the champion, giving the Garuda squad an opportunity to showcase their best team.
