Indonesia's national team will shift focus to the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 after suffering elimination from the 2026 AFF Cup. The team coached by John Herdman failed to advance from the group stage of that tournament.

Indonesia will serve as hosts and be placed in Group A of the Premier Division alongside India, Malaysia, and Singapore. The tournament is scheduled to take place from 21 September to 3 October 2026, held during an international FIFA Matchday period.

Group A matches will be played across three matchdays, although the specific schedule and kick-off times have not yet been officially announced. The tournament's status on the FIFA calendar allows Indonesia to field its strongest squad, including diaspora players competing in European competitions.

Players such as Jay Idzes, Calvin Verdonk, Kevin Diks, Emil Audero, Ole Romeny, and Justin Hubner were unavailable for the AFF Cup but are expected to play in the FIFA ASEAN Cup. Indonesia aims to achieve the best possible results to improve its FIFA ranking and recover from the disappointment of the AFF Cup failure.
