Yemeni Houthi militia group claims to have attacked the Aramco refinery centre in Jizan city, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday (9/10). The attack used drones and is claimed to have successfully triggered a fire at the oil refinery.

Saudi authorities confirmed a major fire at the state-owned oil refinery. Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Energy stated that the fire occurred at Aramco's refinery facility in Jizan and that emergency authorities had completed the necessary procedures to handle the incident. The ministry did not specify the cause of the fire.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the facility had been targeted by drone attacks. Saree stated the attack was carried out in retaliation for Saudi Arabia's "violation of the airspace of Saada and Hajjah provinces" using unmanned aircraft.

Jizan is located on the coast of Saudi Arabia's Red Sea, near the border with Yemen, and has repeatedly been targeted by Houthi attacks aimed at energy infrastructure. Aramco CEO Amin Nasser said last week that attacks on the company's facilities caused production disruptions, but he was confident operations could be restored soon. Nasser stated the attacks had no significant operational or financial impact.

The Houthis also claimed to have targeted Saudi forces and military equipment in the port city of Mocha, Yemen, located on the Red Sea coast. The attacks were carried out using a large number of ballistic missiles and unmanned aircraft.
