Coco Gauff captured her second Cincinnati Open women's singles title by defeating fellow American Jessica Pegula 6-2 6-4 in straight sets. The victory marked the first all-American women's final in Cincinnati in 56 years.
Gauff, ranked No. 4 in the world, became only the third player in the Open Era to win multiple Cincinnati titles, joining Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka. She converted five of six break points throughout the match and took the opening set 6-2 after building a 5-0 lead. Pegula fought back to 5-4 in the second set before Gauff closed out the win.
Pegula had reached the final by defeating defending champion Iga Swiatek, while Gauff advanced past unseeded Sara Bejlek, who had previously knocked out world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. Gauff won all five of her matches in Cincinnati in straight sets.
Pegula said Gauff played at a high level throughout. "A dangerous, confident Coco is going to New York," Pegula said of the upcoming US Open. The head-to-head series between the two Americans is now tied at five apiece, with Sunday marking their second final meeting after Gauff's victory at Wuhan last year.
