FX has announced that season two of The Lowdown will premiere on October 14 on FX and Hulu. The series, created by Sterlin Harjo, will follow truth-seeking journalist Lee Raybon (Ethan Hawke) as he investigates a new case while navigating personal challenges.

Lee teams with public defender Ginger (Betty Gilpin) to investigate the disappearance of one of her clients from state prison. According to FX, the case involves themes of power, corruption, and misconduct among the wealthy elite. The investigation pulls Lee away from his teenage daughter Francis (Ryan Kiera Armstrong), a tension exacerbated when Lee's estranged father, Lee Raybon Senior (Tommy Lee Jones), unexpectedly arrives in town.

Marty (Keith David) has become managing editor at the Heartland Press, the outlet where Lee works. Lee enlists help from Johnny (Rafael Casal), a jujitsu-trained dentist and new husband to Lee's ex-partner Samantha (Kaniehtiio Horn). The season picks up after Lee received a local citizen journalist award for his coverage of Dale Washberg's death in season one.

Harjo has said he envisions multiple seasons ahead for the show. "I have ideas," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "I was telling somebody, The Rockford Files did it every episode. We could do every season." FX Productions is the studio, with executive producers including Garrett Basch, Ethan Hawke, Ryan Hawke, Duffy Boudreau, and Scott Teems.
