The 2026 Venice Biennale, running through November 22, has drawn coverage of its main exhibition and numerous collateral events, from Koyo Kouoh's "In Minor Keys" to Gabrielle Goliath's "Elegy," which was displayed at a church after being cancelled by the South African pavilion.
The biennale's coverage has also included reviews of Alma Allen's United States pavilion, an interview with Khaled Sabsabi whose Australian pavilion was censored under pressure from pro-Israel groups and later reinstated, and reports on projects by Dayanita Singh at the State Archives of Venice and a collaboration between Arthur Jafa and Richard Prince.
As summer heat waves subside, critics are now evaluating which national pavilions visitors should prioritize. Editor-at-Large Hrag Vartanian and critic Aruna D'Souza have begun a conversation on the merits and shortcomings of specific national pavilions, starting with a defense of national pavilions themselves as a framework for the exhibition.
