Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is reportedly intent on bringing Martin Zubimendi from Arsenal ahead of the new Premier League season. The move is being driven by Alonso himself, who has asked the club's management to make a move to bring the Spanish midfielder to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea's interest in Zubimendi has emerged after Arsenal successfully secured Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes. The arrival of the Brazilian has made The Gunners' midfield more crowded, putting Zubimendi in an unstable position.

Zubimendi started the season in brilliant form and was a key player for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. However, his performance declined towards the end of the season, and his position was taken over by Myles Lewis-Skelly. According to Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo cited by Metro, Zubimendi's future at Arsenal is now full of uncertainty.

Zubimendi and Alonso have previously worked together when Alonso managed Real Sociedad B during 2019-2022. Real Madrid is also reported to be considering bringing the player, after their efforts last year failed when Zubimendi chose to join Arsenal.

Arsenal's stance on the potential sale of Zubimendi has not been made public. However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal is demanding at least £77 million to let their player go.
