Arsenal suffered a 2-3 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in a pre-season friendly Emirates Cup match at the Emirates Stadium in London on Sunday evening. Dortmund took the lead in the seventh minute through a goal by Samuele Inacio.
Dortmund doubled their advantage to 2-0 in the 29th minute after Konstantinos Karetsas fired home a left-footed shot from inside the penalty box. Arsenal responded in the second half when Ethan Nwaneri scored after capitalising on a pass from Christos Tzolis.
Dortmund extended their lead four minutes later with a goal from Kouakou Joane Gadou to make it 3-1. Arsenal were awarded a penalty in the 69th minute, and Viktor Gyokeres reduced the deficit to 2-3, which remained the final score. According to Emirates Cup format, the match was followed by a penalty shootout which Arsenal won 5-4. In another pre-season friendly, Liverpool lost 2-3 to AS Monaco at Anfield after falling behind 2-0 with goals from Alexander Isak in the 16th minute and Florian Wirtz in the 29th minute.
